Jo represented a young man from Romania who was charged with three counts of rape. The Crown’s case was that he had targetted a vulnerable woman that he had met in Leicester town centre who had, apparently, no reason to lie about him.  The defence was consent and was hindered by the fact that the defendant had lied during police interview.

Jo applied to introduce in evidence the fact that this complainant had made two previous allegations against other individuals neither of which had lead to charges and contained inconsistencies and one contained similarities to the allegation under consideration.

The jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict within forty five minutes of retiring.

Jo was instructed by Oliver D’Sars Solicitors.
