Elsa Wyllie

Ms. Wyllie holds an MA in International Law and Security from the United Kingdom and an LLM from Columbia University. Her career includes experience at NATO, NORAD, and the United Nations in Rwanda, where she managed demobilization programs for militia soldiers.

Called to the Bar of British Columbia, Canada, Ms. Wyllie primarily focuses on criminal defence and human rights work. She has defended individuals accused of serious offenses, including sexual assault, drug trafficking, and second-degree murder. In addition to her defence work, she has acted as Complainant/Victim Counsel and has extensive experience working with vulnerable witnesses, offering consultation on trauma-informed approaches. She has appeared at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Currently, Ms. Wyllie serves as the Events Officer for the International Bar Association’s War Crimes Committee. She is active in a broader IBA initiative supporting capacity-building efforts in Ukraine’s war crime adjudications, with a focus on ensuring compliance with international legal standards and strengthening rule-of-law frameworks.

Though Ms. Wyllie is not called to the Bar of England and Wales and does not provide legal services through Chambers, she offers valuable insights and specialises in international law, war crimes, and victims’ rights. Her breadth of experience and dedication to justice make her a distinguished addition to our network.
