Genevieve Moss is a highly regarded barrister with a thriving Crown Court practice, focussing on serious and organised crime. Known for her meticulous preparation, persuasive advocacy, and exceptional client care, she acts in serious and complex criminal cases ranging from gangland murders and firearms offences to large-scale drug conspiracies and serious sexual offences.

Genevieve is renowned for her tenacity, courtroom skill, and ability to win the trust of even the most vulnerable of clients. Judges have commended her “eloquent and focussed” submissions and her ability to achieve results against the odds.

She was recently instructed as lead counsel in an 8-week firearms trial achieving an acquittal for her lay client. She was also recently led in a 6 month gangland murder trial and a multi handed 8 week county lines drugs trial.

A results driven barrister who strives to achieve the best outcome for her lay clients, whatever charges they face, her skill in cross-examination and delivery of persuasive legal arguments has secured numerous acquittals. She has also appeared before the Court of Appeal, where her advocacy has been the subject of praise by Appeal Court Judges

Genevieve is experienced in representing defendants facing Court Martial proceedings.

Genevieve is also an experienced Prosecutor.

As well as her criminal practice, Genevieve is regularly instructed in public and private family court matters. In the family courts she has proven allegation of serious child abuse, reuniting parents with their children whilst receiving judicial recognition for her considered representation. She is frequently instructed to represent parents facing the removal of their children, doing so with her customary focus, empathy and robust determination. She has appeared before the High Court to argue jurisdiction in child abduction cases and acts in Prohibited Steps matters, Specific Issue matters and Child Arrangement cases. Genevieve has also successfully defeated many applications for non-molestation and occupation orders. She represents parents, children, guardians, and local authorities in both public and private law proceedings.

Civil & Other Work

Genevieve also acts in fast-track civil trials, employment disputes, and other matters, with a track record of achieving favourable settlements and judgments.

She accepts instructions on a direct access basis.

Notable Cases

  • R v JA (2025)

    Led defence counsel in a nine-count trial including attempted murder. Secured acquittal on firearm possession after eight-week retrial.

  • R v RW (2024)

    Crown Court judge described submissions as “compelling and powerful” in sentencing for major Class A supply case, achieving a sentence 4–8 years below guideline range.

  • R v FD (2024)

    Acquittal on s.18 GBH with intent; secured non-custodial sentence for lesser s.20 offence despite prior convictions.

  • Court of Appeal (2019)

    Sentence successfully reduced; court thanked Genevieve for “focussed and eloquent” submissions.

  • SM v BE (2025)

    Proved rape allegations in contested hearing; secured dismissal of father’s application and a s.91(14) barring order.

  • KK v KK (2024)

    Achieved findings of serious child abuse following contested eight-day fact-finding hearing; secured welfare order in full.

  • LB Hackney v RW (2020)

    Negotiated reunification of mother and baby in care proceedings during lockdown.

  • GR v NJ (2021)

    Secured £12,000 damages in fast-track trial.

  • Bristol Employment Tribunal (2016)

    Successfully proved unfair dismissal in pro bono representation of two employees.
