Charlie Hutchins

Charlie Hutchins is a second six pupil with a strong foundation in criminal defence, sports and regulatory law. He gained significant prior experience as a caseworker with a number of leading criminal defence firms.

Before commencing pupillage, he managed a caseload of approximately 40 clients across the full range of criminal offences, from first appearances in the magistrates’ court to hearings in the Court of Appeal. His work included preparing defence statements, drafting legal applications, liaising with experts and counsel, and advising clients both in custody and at court.

Charlie is accepting instructions in the magistrates’ and Crown Courts. He brings a calm, professional manner to court and is already experienced in dealing with a broad range of offences, including violent crime, serious sexual offences, and complex fraud.

Before coming to the Bar, Charlie had a successful career in financial services, where he worked in senior project and client-facing roles at HSBC and Barclays, developing meticulous attention to detail and exceptional client care skills. He has also undertaken numerous mini-pupillages, marshalled at the Central Criminal Court, magistrates court and gained first-hand experience of serious and sensitive trials.

Charlie is a well practiced advocate with a strong mooting record and a background in public speaking through Toastmasters. He combines strategic thinking with strong interpersonal skills, and is committed to representing clients with diligence, clarity and compassion.

Charlie is an authorised Grade 1 prosecutor.
