Chris Johnston secures lenient sentence for council team leader in major fraud case

Chris Johnston has successfully achieved a lenient sentence for a local authority team leader from the Council’s Benefits Department, who pleaded guilty to defrauding her employer.
An internal investigation uncovered losses totalling nearly half a million pounds. The defendant, a senior team leader responsible for detecting and preventing benefit fraud, was found to have created multiple false claimant profiles over a nine-year period, diverting the funds into her own accounts. She was subsequently suspended and prosecuted.
Following her guilty plea and the skilful presentation of compelling mitigation, the court was persuaded to impose a suspended prison sentence subject to conditions.
Counsel was instructed by Bennett & Co Solicitors.
