George Hepburne Scott secures permission to appeal in the High Court in an extradition case

George Hepburne Scott February 11, 2025

In the case of A.S. v Kaunas Regional Court, Lithuania (AC-2024-LON-003132), George Hepburne Scott has successfully argued for permission to appeal an order for extradition.

On 11 February 2025, a High Court Judge, having considered George’s written submissions, granted permission to appeal on two grounds against an order that the appellant be extradited to Lithuania.

The appeal will now proceed on the the following two grounds:

(1) s.21A of the Extradition Act – proportionality – George having successfully submitted that it is reasonably arguable that the District Judge applied the incorrect UK sentencing guidelines.

(2) Article 8 – impact upon private and family life – George having successfully deployed a ‘time-served’ and relatively short time left argument.

The substantive appeal will now proceed before the High Court in due course.

George was instructed by SG Law.
