Maria Karaiskos KC and Kevin Molloy secure not guilty verdict following five-week trial

Maria Karaiskos KC and Kevin Molloy recently concluded a five-week trial with a not guilty verdict for the offence of Murder.
The defendant, a 42-year-old mother of previous good character, was charged along with two other family members for killing a man who had unlawfully assaulted her. The deceased had comorbidities and was on anticoagulation medication.
The case centred on whether there was a break in the chain of causation by the hospital which treated the deceased, as well as issues of self-defence and joint enterprise. Medical experts gave evidence, as did members of each respective family in this emotionally charged case.
The jury were unable to reach a decision on a lesser alternative of Manslaughter.
Maria and Kevin were instructed for the defence by Glen Henry of Lawtons Solicitors.
