Maria Karaiskos KC interviewed by KC Appointments

Maria Karaiskos KC has been interviewed by KC Appointments, following her appointment as King’s Counsel in 2023 as chambers’ first homegrown silk.

Maria discusses the challenges in applying for silk, noting that it was extremely time-consuming with the application form comprising over 60 pages, and explaining the difficulty in completing this while balancing motherhood, her caseload and her work as a Recorder in the Crown Court and a Deputy District Judge in the Magistrates’ Court.

The interview further notes Maria’s passion for jury trials and the immense respect she holds for jurors, which she extends to everyone who works in the criminal justice system, from probation officers to prison staff.

Maria goes on to recall the KC ceremony in Westminster Hall, highlighting the delight of her two children throughout the day – her son being particularly excited as he thought he might see King Charles!
