Maria Karaiskos KC prosecutes attempted drowning of two young children

Maria Karaiskos KC has prosecuted the attempted drowning of two toddlers in the river Itchen in Southampton, in a distressing case at Winchester Crown Court where the defendant was suffering acute mental health difficulties and feared being deported.

Strangers at the scene entered the river, despite strong currents, and saved the lives of the children and the defendant. The Judge awarded commendations to the members of the public for their brave and humane actions.
