Michael Polak comments on Stop Uyghur Genocide’s submission of evidence to the FCA to block Shein’s LSE flotation

Michael Polak September 5, 2024

Michael Polak has provided comment on the latest development in Stop Uyghur Genocide’s legal campaign to block Shein’s London Stock Exchange (LSE) flotation based on concerns over slavery in supply chains, as they submitted evidence to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Michael emphasised that if Shein’s listing was allowed, this would undermine consumer trust and violate the Proceeds of Crime Act, stating that it may lead British consumers to “unknowingly support Chinese Communist Party atrocities”.

The evidence submitted by Stop Uyghur Genocide includes references to a 2024 Court of Appeal judgment acknowledging the human rights abuses within the XUAR cotton industry, the origin of the majority of China’s cotton.

Michael is instructed by Ricardo Gama of Leigh Day Solicitors in this matter.

Michael’s comments were published in the Daily Mail, and Solicitors Journal.
