We are delighted to announce that Michael Polak has been featured as The Times’ Lawyer of the Week, in relation to his and Lewis Power KC‘s success at the European Court of Human Rights in X v. Cyprus.

In his interview, Michael discussed the challenges he and Lewis faced during the case, noting the difficulty in piecing together the facts of the case due to there being “no formal record of the decisions made by the police and no video or audio recording of the interviews” in Cyprus.

Church Court barristers worked with top Cypriot human rights lawyer Nicoletta Charalambidou and criminal law specialist Ritsa Pekri in both the European Court application and the criminal proceedings within Cyprus.

Michael went on to detail more personal highlights from his career thus far, in particular his work following the enforced disappearance of Bangladeshi barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem by the Bangladeshi secret service, which involved an eight-year campaign for his release.
