Michael Polak presents at the English-Cypriot Common Law Conference

On Friday 14 June 2024, Michael Polak presented at the English-Cypriot Common Law Conference on the right to life and the European Convention’s effect on the law in this area.

He discussed a state’s enhanced duty to investigate death, the effect that the European Convention has had on inquests and other investigations of suspicious deaths in common law countries and how cases involving Britain and Cyprus have helped develop European Human Rights Law in this area.

The conference was jointly organised by the Bar Council of England and Wales and the Cyprus Bar Association, and took place at the Columbia Plaza in Limassol, Cyprus.
