Mohammed Bashir successfully defends against new offence of endangering another during a journey by sea

Mohammed Bashir July 2, 2026

Mohammed Bashir, instructed by City Law Chambers, has secured a significant result in what is believed to be one of the first cases in the country prosecuted under the new offence of endangering another during a journey by sea to the United Kingdom.

Through meticulous disclosure applications and the advancement of the defence of duress, the Crown offered no evidence and the proceedings were discontinued.

This outcome demonstrates the importance of rigorous case preparation, careful analysis of the evidence and robust advocacy, particularly in cases involving new and untested legislation.
