Unanimous acquittal for Llewellyn Culver-Evans in modern slavery defence

Llewellyn Culver-Evans secured a unanimous acquittal for a defendant charged with the supply of Class A drugs at Luton Crown Court.

The defence advanced a case under section 45 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, supported by expert evidence from both a forensic psychiatrist and a modern slavery specialist. The evidence demonstrated that the defendant had been exploited and compelled to participate in the alleged activity.

This case underscores the growing importance of the Modern Slavery Act defence in criminal proceedings, particularly where issues of coercion, trafficking, or vulnerability arise in drug supply cases.

Llewellyn was instructed by Aashar Malik of Woolfe & Co Solicitors.
