After seven weeks at the Old Bailey, a Jury has returned a unanimous verdict of Guilty in a Murder trial prosecuted by Maria Karaiskos KC and Shaun Esprit.

This case began with a fatal stabbing at Strawberry Hill station in January 2024 – a young student killed in a dispute over a low‑level drugs deal. Though the case initially appeared straightforward, significant evidential challenges presented themselves to the prosecution – the platform CCTV cameras were malfunctioning at the crucial moment, leaving a gap where the most important footage should have been.

From that point on, the prosecution had to rebuild the evidential matrix from other available sources: audio captured on a residential doorbell, witness accounts, forensic strands, and the defendant’s own words. Each piece mattered, and each had to be tested, challenged, and placed carefully within the wider narrative.

The trial itself became a series of significant legal battles – over the admissibility of the doorbell recording, over bad character evidence, over hearsay, and over alleged confessions. Every issue required detailed preparation and precise advocacy, both written and oral, to ensure the jury had a clear and reliable framework on which to reach their decision.

The defendant was convicted unanimously, and sentencing will follow.

The case has been widely reported in the press, including in BBC News and The Independent.
